Uses and Benefits

Duphalac Syrup 450ml is generally used to treat constipation. It is also used as an adjunct to protein restriction and supportive therapy for the treatment and prevention of portal-systemic encephalopathy (PSE) this includes both the hepatic precoma and coma variations. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon a doctor’s discretion.

Composition

The active ingredient of Duphalac Syrup 450ml is Lactulose 3.335gm/5ml.

Mechanism of Action of Lactulose:

Lactulose is a synthetic, non absorbable sugar that helps in the treatment of constipation. When consumed orally, it gets broken down in the large intestine and draws water into the intestine. Thereby softening the stools and thus easing constipation.

Contraindications and Caution

Patients with the following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professionals before using the Duphalac Syrup 450ml:

• Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients used in the Duphalac Syrup 450ml such as Lactulose
• Galactosemia
